Darkness

At night things out here take on an eerie look.  The dirt road seems to narrow as the shadowy brush looms ever closer to the road's edge.  The branches become reaching arms with grasping claws.  What evil is lurking just beyond the truck's headlights?  in the end rows of the corn, 5 rows in?

The darkness of the dense woods becomes the incubus of scary things, real or imagined.  When I was a child, I was entertained by the thrill of fright and I smile as I'm reminded of that.  Nightmare Theater on Friday night television, haunted houses and ghost stories around a campfire were deliciously scary.

Tonight, though, I'm humbled to my very core as I ponder this darkness, for that is where I once was: in sin's darkness.  But God (2 of the most beautiful words) ...but God guided me out of that darkness when I, by faith, put my trust in Him.

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness and into his wonderful light."  1 Peter 2:9

No matter how dark the night or how deep the shadows, I am in God's wonderful light.  Thank You, Lord, "even the darkness will not be dark to you: the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you."  Psalm 139:12.
