Safe and Secure from All Alarms

There is something very peaceful and satisfying about seeing the cows lying down in the green pasture.  Without knowing too much yet about cattle, I think they must feel secure enough in our care to lie down without worry.  It makes me think of Psalm 23...."He maketh me to lie down in green pastures."  Surrounded by full provisions and safe from all harm.  These cattle are teaching me about my life and my LORD.

Two weeks ago on a cold and blustery morning, a baby calf was born.  I was so excited to see him.  Amazed, I watched him adjust to his new world.  He knew to stay right next to his mom.  When she moved, he moved right along beside her.  I want to be that close to Jesus.  I never want to leave His side.

"You are my hiding place;
    you will protect me from trouble
    and surround me with songs of deliverance...Selah"           Psalm 32:7

I am reminded of a hymn not often sung lately, perhaps it's too old-fashioned now.  I looked up the lyrics because I could only remember the tune and the refrain.

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain
