The farm sits in a river valley and has many ravines, some very deep. One such ravine cuts through the edge of the east pasture making an enticing spot for the cattle to try to wriggle under the wires of the fence. In order to shore up the tempting opening, we secured a large railroad tie just under bottom wire to span the ravine. We then walked along the edge of the ravine awestruck by the power of water to cause such erosion in just a couple seasons. As I examined exposed tree roots and bare dirt wash-outs, I thought about another kind of powerful water: Living water.
In chapter 4 of John, Jesus talks to a woman at the well and asks her for a drink. After she questions Him, “Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.’” John 4:10
He goes on in verse 13 and 14 to further compare natural water and living water:
“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’”
That’s powerful water!!
