Harvest is Here! Do I Know What I've Sown?

I am living in a giant stained-glass window.  The October afternoon sun is illuminating the leaves: yellows, greens, russets, bronzes.  The clear blue of the sky provides the top border of this virtual window while the pond, brownish with yellow reflections, anchors it.  Pileated woodpeckers are flitting from tree to tree, even getting into some skirmishes with each other.  This view, to me, is beautiful.

Harvest is going on all around this farming community.  Today on the ranch we are cutting hay for the final time this year.  The hay mower is loud and overtakes the quiet.  Even so, I can still hear the melody of the wind chimes and the rustle of the leaves blown by Autumn's gentle breath.  Harvest is one of my favorite words.  On my private list, it's up there toward the top with Home and Family and Farm.

The entire farming year revolves around harvest.  Harvest is why we plant seeds, breed cattle, and make a garden.  Harvest happens away from the farm, too.  Everyone reaps what he sows; and everyone sows.  What am I sowing?  I'd better check my seed bag.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.    Galatians 6:9,10
